Megan Fox : More “Transformers” in Tokyo

Posted by Administrator On June - 9 - 2009

megan-fox-tokyoWhen sharing a red carpet with a 16ft robot, Megan Fox knew she’d have to go the extra mile to get attention.

The actress guaranteed she made a maximum impact at the world premiere of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in Tokyo with a striking figure-hugging purple gown.

Taking a style tip from seasoned red carpet veteran Liz Hurley, Megan showed off her fabulous legs in a slashed-to-the-thigh satin Donna Karan gown.

The 23-year-old beauty joined co-stars Shia LaBeouf, Isabel Lucas, Josh Duhamel, Ramon Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson at the Toho cinema in Roppongi Hills for the first screening of the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster.

Hundred of Japanese fans queued for hours to see their idols, while only a lucky few managed to see the eagerly-anticipated film.

The new movie sees Shia and Megan reprises their roles as teenage couple Sam Witwicky and Mikaela Banes, who team up with their Autobot robot friends to stop the Decepticons from destroying the planet.

Speaking on the red carpet, Megan thanked director Michael Bay for giving her a role in the original film, which launched her Hollywood career.

She said: ‘It’s mind-blowing. I think it has opened a lot of doors for me career-wise, but there is a certain loss of anonymity, like leaving your house and having people take your picture all the time. That is a different kind of life.’

Also on at premiere was the Sam’s robot pal Bumblebee, who transforms into the student’s Chevrolet Camaro.

Michael Phelps Photo Trouble

Michael Phelps, who did what some thought to be impossible, won eight gold medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing this past August.

The eight medals he won in Beijing, plus the six gold and two bronze he won at the 2004 games in Athens brought Michael Phelps to a total of 16 Olympic Medals, making him the greatest Olympic athlete of all time.

Sunday, February 1, News of the World released a photograph of Michael Phelps allegedly smoking pot.

Michael Phelps released the following statement a couple hours later in regards to the photo:

“I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgement. I’m 23-years-old and despite successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

The photo was taken at a college party in this past fall at the University of South Carolina. Michael Phelps was rumored to be dating a girl who attends the university.

Post-Olympic Games Behavior

This is not the first time that Michael Phelps has apologized for his behavior out of the pool.

In the fall of 2004, after the Olympic Games in Athens, a then 19-year-old Phelps was arrested for driving under the influence after being pulled over by police for driving through a stop sign.

Michael Phelps wrote about the incident in his first book, Beneath the Surface.

“I understood right away that this wasn’t something trivial. I would have to be accountable for doing something very wrong.”

Michael Phelps sorry over photo

The International Olympic Committee expressed confidence yesterday that Michael Phelps will learn from his “inappropriate behaviour” and continue to serve as a role model after a British newspaper published a photo of him inhaling from a marijuana pipe. Michael Phelps, who won a record eight swimming gold medals at last year’s Beijing Olympics, apologised and acknowledged “regrettable behaviour” after the picture was published on Sunday by the tabloid News of the World.

Michael Phelps is a great Olympic champion,” the IOC said. “We have no reason to doubt his sincerity and his commitment to continue to act as a role model.”

US officials said the news was disappointing but stressed that smoking marijuana out of competition was not an anti-doping matter at this point.

Two of Michael Phelps‘ leading sponsors expressed their continued support for the swimmer.

Swimwear manufacturer Speedo, which gave Michael Phelps a $1 million  bonus for his record at the Beijing Olympics, offered backing to the 23-year-old American. Luxury Swiss watchmaker Omega said it considered Michael Phelps‘ actions a private matter and a “non-issue”.

Bernard Madoff: Ponzi Scheme Arrest

Posted by Administrator On December - 12 - 2008

Bernard Madoff was the head of a multi-billion dollar hedge fund on Wall Street. Today, he was arrested for running a Ponzi Scheme.

For financial beginners, I’m going to break this down to the very basics because this arrest is one of the biggest financial frauds in American history, and the ramifications are potentially enormous. People need to be informed.

First some definitions:

A Ponzi scheme is loosely defined as a fraudent investment scheme that involves promising high returns to early investors out of the money paid in by later investors. Basically, in a Ponzi scheme, the business only makes money by suckering more and more investors into pouring money into the fund. This is illegal because investors think they are investing in an underlying business that will generate profits and revenue and lead to long-term returns to the investors. The head of the scheme knows this will never happen.

A Hedge Fund is a private investment fund open to a limited range of investors that is allowed to engaged in a wider range of risky activities than most investment funds (i.e. your 401k, which is heavily regulated). Hedge funds are able to use methods not available to other investments, like short selling (borrowing shares to sell immediately on the open market), derivative contracts, and leverage (borrowing money to buy securities). Using these different methods allows the fund to “hedge” the risk, like a gambler “hedges” his bets by making a variety of bets.

Complicated? Yes, it is. As a matter of fact, very few people outside of Wall Street understand what hedge funds do and how they make money. There are very few regulations governing hedge funds because they are so complex. Also, generally, the Securities and Exchange Commission only lets really rich people invest in hedge funds.
